Member of Parliament(MP) for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo has expressed worry over Ghana’s education losing credibility under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, basic and secondary education under this government is nothing to write home about since the structures have been weakened.
Isaac Adongo was speaking at a programme organized by the Bolgatanga Technical University’s Tertiary Education Institute Network (TEIN) program, on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
Isaac Adongo said “Under Akufo-Addo, immediately you send your child to school by the time you get home, the child will be in the house looking at you. When you ask, he will say they are on vacation. What kind of education system is this? “
The Member of Parliament who is known for his acumen in finance complained bitterly about what the current government is doing with funds at GETFUND when those monies were meant to battle issues in education like eradicating schools under trees.
“Unfortunately, NDC set up a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) initiative to address some of the educational challenges but when this government came to power it has used the GETFund to borrow money and spent already GHc 685 million of the GETfund proceeds to service debts and other things to the neglect of eliminating schools under trees and furniture challenges.”
