The Duamenefa Regional Tournament (DRT), proudly sponsored by his His Excellency Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah‑Atokple, Torgbui Nyaxordeakola 1, Grand Finale will be held at the Klikor Unity Park, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region on November 28, 2026, marking the first time the prestigious regional football competition will climax in the Klikor Traditional Area.
The decision, announced by the Duamenefa Foundation, is part of an initiative to rotate the hosting of the tournament’s grand finale among communities across the region. The move also seeks to honour the late Torgbuiga Addo XIII, who the Foundation said served the Duamenefa Foundation as a very very important personality, certified volunteer, consultant to the executive board of governors for close to 20 years.
The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, confirmed Klikor as this year’s host during an interview with Abass Seidu on the Agoo Morning Show on Fafaa FM.
He explained that the decision should not be interpreted as taking the tournament away from Dzodze, where the grand finale has traditionally been held at Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School.
Rather, he said, the move forms part of the Foundation’s broader vision of giving communities across the region the opportunity to host the event.
“Other communities in the region must also have the opportunity to host this great gathering,” Mr. Ketaman said.
According to him, the DRT has developed beyond a football competition and has become a major regional gathering that brings together traditional leaders, government officials, football enthusiasts, members of the Duamenefa Foundation and the general public.
He compared the rotation of the DRT finale to the FIFA World Cup, which is hosted by different countries.
“The FIFA World Cup does not remain in one country. It moves from one country to another, and we believe the same principle can apply to our tournament,” he noted.
Mr. Evortepe said rotating the venue would allow different communities to experience the social, cultural and economic benefits associated with hosting the tournament’s grand finale.
The choice of Klikor, he said, is also supported by the area’s strong connection with the Duamenefa Foundation and this year’s competition.
He disclosed that the Klikor Traditional Area has more than 2,400 registered and certified volunteers of the Foundation, while several teams participating in this year’s tournament are also from the area.
“Klikor has over 2,400 registered members of the Foundation, and most of the teams participating in this year’s tournament are from the Klikor Traditional Area. So, there is a strong connection between Klikor and this year’s grand finale,” he said.
The November 28 grand finale will also carry significant traditional importance, coming shortly after the funeral rites of the late Torgbuiga Addo XIII, former overlord of the Klikor Traditional Area.
The funeral rites are scheduled for October 24, 2026, at the Klikor Unity Park.
Mr. Evortepe described the newly installed traditional leader, DCOP Dr. Togbiga Addo VIIII, as a development-oriented leader and expressed optimism about the continued progress of the Klikor Traditional Area.
The Duamenefa Foundation and Fafaa FM have also pledged one month of free announcements to support publicity for the funeral activities of the late traditional leader.
The gesture, according to Ketaman, forms part of the institutions’ commitment to supporting the traditional area during the period.
The confirmation of Klikor as host represents a significant development in the history of the Duamenefa Regional Tournament, which has traditionally held its grand finale at Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School.
The decision was contained in an official release issued by the tournament organisers and signed by Patrick Amazing Doamekpor, Director of Sports of the Duamenefa Foundation.
With Klikor Unity Park set to welcome the grand finale on November 28, expectations are building for a major gathering that will combine football, traditional leadership, culture, community development and regional unity.
For Klikor, the hosting opportunity presents more than a chance to stage a football event. It provides an opportunity for the community to showcase its hospitality, strengthen local participation and honour the legacy of traditional leadership.
The November 28 event is therefore expected to usher in a new chapter for the Duamenefa Regional Tournament as the competition begins its transition towards a rotating grand-finale model across the region.
