‘There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged’ – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has denied allegations of collusion with any political party to manipulate the upcoming December 7 general elections.

These claims were made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which accused the EC of working with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence the election results, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing the accusations at a security symposium held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr Serebuor Quaicoe, the EC’s Head of Training, dismissed the allegations as unfounded.

He assured the public that there was no truth to the claims and emphasised that the EC operates with full independence and integrity.

Dr Quaicoe noted that the current electoral system has been specifically designed to safeguard the process from any form of manipulation.

He pointed out that robust measures are in place to ensure the transparency and fairness of the elections, with multiple checks and balances throughout the entire process.

The EC official further reassured the public that the Commission remains committed to upholding the credibility of the electoral process.

He reiterated that the integrity of the elections is paramount and that no political party or individual has any undue influence over the Commission’s operations.

“There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged. There is no way. It can only be done with the collaboration of all stakeholders. Because at any point in time, the people are there. That will mean the Electoral Commission will be compromised and the party agents themselves will be compromised.”

“Because when they count, and it is 10, they say it is 100, and everybody agrees. It is not possible. So, there can be irregularities, there can be fraudulent activities, but rigging an election is impossible in Ghana.”
