Founder and Executive Director of the Kojo Jones Mensah (KJM) Foundation, a Non-governmental Organization (NGO), Dr. Emmanuel Kojo Jones-Mensah an associate of the Duamenefa Foundation on Feb. 1, 2023, joined the Chiefs and people Lawoshime to cut sod for the construction of two separate steel bridges for the Hatorgodo and Agorvinu communities in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region.
The Foundation and its founder have over the years been working to improve the living standards of people living in deprived communities within Ghana and beyond.
For more than 100 years, residents of Agorvinu and Lawoshime areas have had to struggle to cross the river to Atsiavi and adjoining areas.
The makeshift wood bridges have become a nightmare to the residents especially school children whose parents worry for the safety of their children who move to and from school, with complaints of the wooden bridges now becoming a death traps as the bridges overflow during rainy seasons.
The construction of the bridges would therefore lift the burden off the residents when completed.
Sod-cutting Ceremony
Dr. Jones-Mensah who personally paid a working visit to these areas on January 11, by foot to ascertain things for himself, was touched by the plight of his people, and has therefore taken the decision to undertake the project with proper concrete and steel engineering works once and for all.
For the past two weeks, Dr. Jones-Mensah has mobilised construction materials and equipment such as cement, iron rods, generator and container office to the site, with engineers also on site, ready to commence work on the project.

Phase 1 of the project when completed will have safe foot passage for people as well as passage for four motorbikes, two each on opposite directions.
A tricycle (locally known as Aboboya) will also get a safe passage on the bridge.
The second phase of the bridge will be its eventual expansion to accommodate vehicular movement to and from neighboring communities.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony Dr. Jones Mensah who is also CEO of the Empire Domus Group of Companies and a renowned philanthropist, said he will continue to champion the cause of the less fortunate in society and will work towards the improvement of the lives and living conditions of vulnerable.
He appealed for “all hands on deck” to enable the successful completion of the project.
Torgbi Aklobo I Dufia of Lawoshime expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiary communities and called on other well-meaning individuals and NGO’ to emulate such worthy causes.
