Residents of Wute in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region are celebrating the successful rehabilitation of their community health centre after months of sustained advocacy and follow-up by Fafaa 100.3 FM.
The facility, which had served the community for several years, had deteriorated significantly, with deep cracks developing across the structure. Following an assessment, the building was declared unsafe for use and subsequently closed, leaving residents without access to essential healthcare services.
The closure compelled pregnant women, children, the elderly, and other patients to travel to neighbouring communities to access medical care, creating significant hardship for residents.
In response to concerns raised by members of the community, Fafaa 100.3 FM gave extensive coverage to the issue through its programmes, highlighting the deteriorating condition of the health centre and the urgent need for intervention.
As part of its advocacy efforts, the station maintained regular engagement with the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Wisdom Akpabli, to monitor developments and seek updates on measures being taken to address the problem.
During one of the engagements, Hon. Akpabli disclosed that he had tabled the matter before the Assembly and that the rehabilitation of the health centre had been approved and incorporated into the Assembly’s budget.
Fafaa 100.3 FM continued to follow the issue closely, ensuring that the concerns of the people of Wute remained in the public domain until work on the project commenced.
The sustained advocacy has now produced positive results, with the once-condemned health facility rehabilitated into a safe and improved healthcare centre capable of serving the needs of the community.
Fafaa 100.3 FM has commended Hon. Wisdom Akpabli for responding to the concerns of residents and taking steps to facilitate the rehabilitation of the facility. The station noted that responsive leadership plays a vital role in addressing the needs of communities and improving public services.
According to the station, the people of Wute were simply seeking timely intervention to restore an essential public facility, and the successful completion of the project demonstrates the impact of constructive engagement between communities, local authorities, and the media.
Residents have welcomed the rehabilitation of the health centre, describing it as a major relief that will improve access to quality healthcare and reduce the burden of travelling long distances for medical treatment.
They also expressed appreciation to Fafaa 100.3 FM for consistently advocating on their behalf and using its platform to amplify their concerns until action was taken.
The people of Wute further thanked the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project, expressing optimism that the rehabilitated health centre will enhance healthcare delivery and improve the overall well-being of the community.
