A petitioner involved in an ongoing family property dispute has formally apologized to the Duamenefa Foundation following the suspension of the case over alleged breaches of investigative procedures and defamatory remarks. The incident has generated public discussion as the Foundation continues to emphasize professionalism, fairness, and due process in its mediation and social intervention activities.
The matter under investigation concerns a family property dispute from Dzodze-Kuli in the Volta Region, where siblings are reportedly divided over ownership issues and allegations of spiritual intimidation. According to the petition submitted to the Foundation, Mr. William Atsu Tega and Madam Atsufui Tega accused their younger brother, Mr. David Tega, of allegedly using spiritual means, popularly described as “juju charms,” to intimidate and terrorize family members.
As part of its social intervention programme, the Duamenefa Foundation initiated investigations into the matter in an attempt to restore peace and unity within the family. However, during the proceedings, Mr. William Atsu Tega allegedly described his younger brother as a “murderer” and accused him of causing harm within the family.
The remarks were immediately challenged by the Executive President of the Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, who cautioned that such allegations were inappropriate, defamatory, and inconsistent with both the Constitution of Ghana and the Foundation’s investigative procedures.
Despite repeated warnings to refrain from making unsubstantiated accusations, Mr. William Atsu Tega allegedly continued with the remarks during the hearing. This led to the official suspension of the petition by the Executive President until further notice. The suspension was announced on Sunday, 10th May, 2026, during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme.
Following the suspension, Mr. William Atsu Tega reportedly submitted a formal letter of apology to the Foundation, expressing regret over his conduct during the proceedings. The apology letter was later read publicly on Fafaa 100.3 FM by Abass Seidu on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme.
In the letter, Mr. William Atsu Tega acknowledged that his behavior during the hearing was inappropriate despite earlier cautions from the Executive President. He further indicated that the family had confidence in the Duamenefa Foundation’s ability to help resolve the matter, which informed their decision to seek the Foundation’s intervention.
He appealed to the Foundation for forgiveness and assured management that he would avoid similar conduct in future proceedings. He also expressed regret over the misunderstanding that occurred during the hearing and pledged to fully cooperate with the Foundation moving forward.
Additionally, he promised to strictly comply with all rules governing the mediation process and maintain respectful conduct throughout future engagements related to the case.
The Duamenefa Foundation, on its part, reaffirmed its commitment to handling the matter fairly and impartially, emphasizing that all parties involved would be granted a fair hearing once proceedings resume. The Foundation also reiterated the importance of discipline, mutual respect, and responsible conduct during all investigative sessions.
Reports further indicate that management of the Duamenefa Foundation is expected to deliberate on the apology and determine the next course of action regarding the suspended petition and the continuation of the mediation process.
The public has therefore been urged to remain patient and await the outcome of the Foundation’s internal deliberations as the matter develops further.
