H.E. Dr. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, the Council of State Member representing the Volta Region, has been appointed Patron of the Aldershot Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) UK and Ireland Chapter.
The appointment adds a new responsibility to Dr. Kwamigah Tanko Atokple’s public engagements and gives him an opportunity to work more closely with members of the NDC’s diaspora community in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Kwamigah Tanko Atokple has accepted the appointment in good faith, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with the position and the expectations of the executives and members of the Aldershot Branch.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, he said:
“I accept the appointment in good faith, fully aware of the responsibility it carries and the expectations of the executives and members of the Aldershot Branch.”
He described the appointment as an opportunity to collaborate with the branch to strengthen its activities and increase its contribution to the NDC’s work among Ghanaians living outside the country.
“This presents an opportunity to work with the branch to strengthen its activities, deepen its contribution to the NDC’s work in the diaspora and support projects that can make a practical difference in Ghana.”
Dr. Kwamigah Tanko Atokple also acknowledged the historical significance of the Aldershot Branch within the NDC’s diaspora network.
“The Aldershot Branch occupies an important position within the NDC’s diaspora network, having been inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama.”
His appointment comes at a time when the contribution of the Ghanaian diaspora to national development remains an important area of discussion. Ghanaians living abroad possess professional expertise, business connections and international networks that can potentially support initiatives in Ghana.
Dr. Kwamigah Tanko Atokple has therefore encouraged members of the diaspora to consider how their experience and connections can be channelled into productive opportunities in Ghana, particularly in areas such as investment, entrepreneurship and employment creation.
For the Aldershot Branch, the appointment is expected to strengthen its engagement with its members and create further opportunities for collaboration on programmes that connect the diaspora with development initiatives in Ghana.
The branch is part of the NDC’s wider UK and Ireland structure, which provides a platform for party members and supporters living in the diaspora to remain connected to political and developmental activities in Ghana.
Dr. Kwamigah Tanko Atokple’s role as Patron is separate from his constitutional responsibilities as a member of Ghana’s Council of State. As the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, he has responsibilities relating to the Council’s work at the national level.
His background in business and his involvement in development-related engagements have also provided him with experience in areas relevant to diaspora collaboration and investment.
The new appointment is expected to provide an additional platform for him to engage with Ghanaians in the United Kingdom and encourage stronger connections between diaspora communities and development opportunities in Ghana.
The focus, according to his statement, will be on working with the Aldershot Branch, strengthening its activities and supporting projects capable of producing practical results for Ghana.
Dr. Kwamigah Tanko Atokple’s acceptance of the appointment brings his public service and diaspora engagement into a new area, with the Aldershot Branch now set to benefit from his participation as its Patron.
