The Duamenefa Foundation has intervened in a dispute surrounding the alleged installation of an Adzevedu deity at Netsikorpe in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, resulting in its subsequent removal.
The issue came to the attention of the Duamenefa Foundation after the Divisional Chief of Netsikorpe, Torgbui Hayibor II, petitioned the Foundation, alleging that Madam Janet Egbe had installed an Adzevedu deity in the community without his knowledge.
According to the petition, the alleged installation created tension within the community and raised concerns among residents about the circumstances surrounding the presence of the deity.
Upon receiving the petition, the Duamenefa Foundation engaged the parties involved in an effort to understand the circumstances surrounding the matter and promote a peaceful resolution.
As part of the process, the Foundation reached out to Madam Janet Egbe and gave her the opportunity to respond to the allegations contained in the petition.
In her response, Madam Egbe stated that she had informed Torgbui Hayibor II about the matter. She, however, declined to comment further, explaining that she had already taken the matter to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
The Duamenefa Foundation subsequently followed up on the matter at CHRAJ as part of its efforts to monitor developments and support a peaceful resolution.
The Foundation also maintained contact with Torgbui Hayibor II as it followed developments concerning the alleged installation.
In a follow-up to the story, Torgbui Hayibor II confirmed to the Duamenefa Foundation that the alleged Adzevedu installed in the Netsikorpe community had been removed.
The confirmation brought relief and joy to members of the community, following the tension that had reportedly surrounded the matter. The development is also expected to help restore calm and peaceful coexistence among residents.
The Duamenefa Foundation’s intervention underscores the importance of dialogue, engagement and the use of appropriate institutions in addressing disputes that have the potential to create tension within communities.
The Foundation has encouraged all parties involved to remain calm and pursue peaceful avenues for resolving their differences while respecting the processes of the institutions handling the matter.
The allegations concerning the original installation remain claims attributed to the parties involved, while the subsequent removal of the alleged Adzevedu has been confirmed to the Foundation by Torgbui Hayibor II.
