Total donations valued at GH¢185,355 support hospital re-equipping efforts and improve care for children and male patients.
The Duamenefa Foundation, in partnership with Dr. David Kotei Nutakor, a Ghanaian geotechnical engineer based in California, United States, has once again fulfilled its commitment to supporting the Keta Municipal Hospital with the delivery of the 11th phase of medical and other essential supplies to the facility.
The latest donation underscores the continued commitment of the Foundation’s President and Chief Executive Officer of FAFAA 100.3 FM, Mr Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, also known as Torgbi Duamenefa I, and his cousin, Dr David Kotei Nutakor, also known as Togbi Dunenyo I, to improving healthcare delivery in their hometown.
The delegation from the Duamenefa Foundation and FAFAA 100.3 FM received a warm welcome from the hospital’s Administrator, Mr Alex Hlortsi, and members of staff.
Speaking on behalf of the Medical Director, Dr Kofi K. Bonsu, Mr Hlortsi expressed profound appreciation to the donors for their sustained support over the years. He acknowledged the significant contributions made towards improving the hospital’s facilities and enhancing patient care.
Medical Equipment and Educational Materials Donated
A statement of appreciation, detailing the donations made to the hospital since 2020, was read on behalf of the Duamenefa Foundation and Dr David Kotei Nutakor by Rev. Mrs Theresa Govina-Seckey.
Among the medical equipment presented were:
1. One suction machine.
2. One Littmann stethoscope.
3. One five-fold ward screen.
4. One four-fold ward screen.
5. One Omron blood pressure monitor.
The donations form part of the donors’ continued efforts to support the hospital’s Centenary Re-Equipping Programme.
In addition to the medical equipment, considerable attention was given to the needs of children receiving care at the hospital. A barrel containing various child-support and recreational items was donated, including educational books, reading materials, teachers’ guides, toys, balls, clothing and other essential supplies.
The items were donated by Stibgen Brooks, an associate of the Duamenefa Foundation based in the United States. Their estimated value is approximately US$1,500, equivalent to about GH¢17,500, according to the information provided by the donors.
The items were formally presented by Rev. Dr Raymond Sogah, assisted by Senior Reverend Minister D. M. Banini and other ministers from the Duamenefa Intercessors.
Also present were Rev. Dr Samuel Gayibor, Apostle Roger Amedagbe, Apostle Dr John Agorssor, Rev. Mrs Theresa Govina-Seckey, Madam Peace Kpodo and the Foundation’s senior driver, Mr Edward Akaba, among other members of the delegation.
Upon receiving the items, the hospital Administrator assured the delegation that the equipment and supplies would be channelled through the hospital’s stores for proper recording and documentation.
Dr Nutakor Reaffirms Commitment to Children’s Welfare
A message from Dr David Kotei Nutakor, read by Catechist James Nutakor, highlighted the trust, integrity and shared commitment underpinning his collaboration with his cousin, Mr Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, in advancing the work of the Duamenefa Foundation.
According to the message, Dr Nutakor’s confidence in the Foundation is further strengthened by the assurances of Rev. Diane Westcott, also known as Mamaga Duamenefa I, the Foundation’s International Director of Operations, regarding accountability and the proper management of projects he supports financially.
The message further explained that Dr Nutakor’s decision to support the children’s ward was driven by a personal commitment to improving the welfare of young patients. He pledged to sustain this support in honour and loving memory of his late parents, Leonard Besa Gbede Nutakor and Sabina Atsemuyo Evortepe.
He encouraged the hospital authorities to ensure that the donated equipment and supplies were put to effective use to enhance the treatment, recovery and general well-being of children admitted to the facility.
Keta Traditional Council Commends the Initiative
The occasion was also graced by Torgbi James Ocloo V, Paramount Chief of the Keta Traditional Area, who commended Dr David Kotei Nutakor, Togbi Dunenyo I, and Mr Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, Togbi Duamenefa I, for their sustained support to both the children’s and male wards of the hospital.
The traditional ruler expressed appreciation for the donors’ commitment to community welfare and called on the hospital’s management to ensure that the donated items were properly maintained and used for their intended purposes.
Inspection Confirms Continued Use of Previous Donations
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the children’s and male wards, where members offered prayers for patients and inspected equipment and other items donated during previous visits.
The inspection reportedly revealed that the items donated to the hospital over the preceding six years remained in good condition, with the exception of two bicycles in the children’s recreational room that required replacement.
The findings were encouraging and reflected the importance of responsible maintenance and effective utilisation of donated resources in sustaining healthcare support initiatives.
According to the donors’ records, the cumulative value of support provided by Dr David Kotei Nutakor and the Duamenefa Foundation to the Keta Municipal Hospital over the period under review stands at GH¢185,355.00 (One Hundred and Eighty-Five Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty-Five Ghana Cedis).
A Lasting Commitment to Community Development
The 11th phase of the donation represents another milestone in the longstanding partnership between the Duamenefa Foundation, Dr David Kotei Nutakor and the Keta Municipal Hospital.
Their continued intervention demonstrates the important role that individuals, philanthropists, civil society organisations and community-based initiatives can play in supporting public healthcare institutions, complementing government efforts and improving the quality of care available to vulnerable patients.
The Duamenefa Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to community development, social welfare and peaceful coexistence. According to the Foundation, its volunteer movement currently numbers 48,764 members and continues to grow.
Through collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sustained community interventions, the Foundation seeks to promote development and improve the well-being of people across its operational areas.
The latest donation is a testament to the enduring spirit of philanthropy and the shared responsibility of individuals and organisations to contribute to the welfare of their communities.
