The Avadre community in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region has honoured its Assembly Member, Hon. Prosper Agbeli, for what it describes as his outstanding contribution to community development and social advancement.
The recognition took place on Tuesday, 11th August 2026, during the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly General Meeting at the Assembly Hall.
The Regent of Avadre, Torgbe Kofi Horgli, honoured Hon. Agbeli with an Ashanti Kente cloth as a symbol of appreciation for his service and commitment to the development of the community. The honour was presented on his behalf by a delegation led by Akorli Freeman Klu and Dotse Moses Afatsawo.
The gesture was in recognition of a number of development projects, educational interventions and social initiatives that Hon. Agbeli has reportedly championed or supported during his tenure as Assembly Member.
Among the interventions highlighted was his contribution towards securing electricity for the Avadre community, a development considered significant to improving the living conditions and economic activities of residents.
He was also recognised for facilitating the provision of a public address system to support communication during community programmes and activities.
Another key intervention cited was the provision of a mechanised borehole to improve residents’ access to potable water.
In the education sector, Hon. Agbeli was credited with contributing to the establishment of a Junior High School in the community, bringing basic education closer to children in Avadre and surrounding areas.
The community also acknowledged his contribution towards securing a five-unit classroom block with an office, providing additional facilities for teaching and learning.
Other interventions mentioned included the provision of a reverse osmosis machine for the production of pure water and the establishment of a KG playground equipped with a merry-go-round to provide children with a safe recreational environment.
The community further highlighted what it described as 100 percent academic performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), an achievement it said had brought pride to Avadre and reflected the growing emphasis on education.
Beyond infrastructure and education, Hon. Agbeli was also recognised for his involvement in social intervention initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
The Presiding Member of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Raphael Kofi Ahiable, described the recognition as an unprecedented development in the history of the Assembly.
According to him, it was the first time a community had honoured its Assembly Member in such a manner in the history of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, also welcomed the gesture and said he was not surprised by the community’s decision to recognise Hon. Agbeli.
The MCE noted that the Assembly Member’s works and contributions to Avadre “speak volumes.”
The recognition has been described as an expression of appreciation from the people of Avadre for what they consider development-oriented leadership and dedicated community service.
The gesture also highlights the importance of grassroots leadership in identifying community needs and working with traditional authorities, residents and relevant institutions to address them.
For the people of Avadre, the honour represents not only an appreciation of development projects and interventions but also recognition of the commitment they believe Hon. Agbeli has demonstrated towards the welfare of the community.
The recognition is expected to further encourage collaboration between the Municipal Assembly, traditional authorities and residents in pursuing development initiatives that will benefit the people of Avadre.
