Duamenefa Foundation social intervention program saves a corpse for burial

The Duamenefa Foundation has succeeded in its investigation and intervention for the release of the mortal remains of Madam Christiana Mary Dzivenu, who died interstate with seven months pregnancy and lying in the mortuary for the past one year four months, due to deep- rooted spiritual fears.

It would be recalled in a petition filed by Mr. Nyonyo Kplorla, a brother to the deceased. The said petition was directed to the executive president of the Duamenefa Foundation, Fafaa 100.3 Fm, Dzodze for investigation and intervention.

According to the petition, the family had been unable and unwilling to retrieve the remains of the deceased because they feared that another person would die if certain traditional rituals were not performed to pacify the gods. Their fears were linked to a long-standing dispute involving the deceased husband, who had accused the late wife of stealing his rams. The husband, Mr. Francis Gavor, claimed he invoked the wrath of the gods. His brother, Mr Agbokpa Gavor, also sought intervention from the Horgbato gods of Atiavi in the same regards because, he, Agbokpa Gavor was accused unjustifiably by the late wife of his junior brother further intensifying the spiritual concerns.

Family members initially believed that the husband’s brother was responsible for the missing ram, and Madam Dzivenu reportedly supported that suspicion. However, after her death, revelations emerged suggesting that she herself may have been responsible for the missing animal. This development deepened the family’s belief that her death might be spiritually connected to the invoked deities, causing them to stay away from retrieving her body.

Upon receiving the petition, the Duamenefa Foundation launched an investigation and mediation process to resolve the matter. Its Executive President, Mr. Ketaman Evortepe Emmanuel, popularly known as Torgbui Duamenefa I, personally reached out to the chief priest of the Horgbato Shrine, Hunor Korkortor Dziekpor Agumenu, in an effort to seek clarity and find a peaceful solution.

During their engagement, Torgbui Duamenefa I was informed by the chief priest that the family of the deceased should come to him so that the necessary rituals could be performed, to enable the family of the deceased to safely retrieve their daughter for burial.

The deceased family had earlier told the Duamenefa Foundation that the shrine had demanded several items in excess of Ghc 5,000.00 to be paid for ritual purposes before they could bury the deceased.

This belief contributed heavily to their fear and the prolonged 16-month delay. However, during the intervention, Hunor Korkortor Dziekpor Agumenu demonstrated goodwill and a free heart, clarifying that the family could come without fulfilling those earlier demands.

The chief priest has now invited the deceased woman’s family to the Horgbato Shrine on Friday, where the necessary rituals—limited strictly to what the family can comfortably provide—will be performed. This clears the path for the family to finally retrieve the remains of Madam Dzivenu and proceed with her long-delayed funeral rites.

The Duamenefa Foundation has assured its continued presence and support to ensure that the entire process is carried out peacefully and safely, bringing an end to more than a year of fear, uncertainty, and spiritual tension.

The Duamenefa Foundation of Fafaa 100.3 Fm is a movement of over 48,654 registered and certified volunteers, mandated to promote peaceful coexistence of people in the various communities.
