The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced plans by his ministry to introduce an electronic ticketing (E-ticketing) system at the nation’s sporting facilities to enhance transparency and accountability in revenue collection.
Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, November 4, he explained that the move is part of broader reforms aimed at curbing revenue leakages and ensuring that funds generated from sports events are properly accounted for and used for their intended purposes.
“When we improve networking, which we haven’t completely done yet, ticketing to our stadium facilities during game times will no longer be 100% manual,” he said.
“So, we want to do some E-ticketing that brings about a lot more transparency. Aside from that, when the money gets into the coffers, it must follow through the standard accounting procedures and the Financial Regulation Act that exists in the country,” he added.
Mr. Adams also revealed that the ministry will soon inaugurate the Board for the National Sports Authority (NSA) to strengthen oversight and ensure adherence to financial regulations within the sports sector, thereby preventing fraudulent practices that often result in revenue losses to the state
“Very soon, we will also inaugurate the board for the National Sports Authority, and they will perform the appropriate duty. We will see to it that they do what they are supposed to do to improve the transparency and accountability processes,” he assured.
The minister’s remarks came in response to a question from the committee on the mechanisms being implemented to protect revenue collected by the ministry and ensure that it is used for its rightful purpose.
