Residents of Tadzewu, nearby communities, and regular road users are expressing fear for their safety as a massive pothole that has taken up nearly half of the main road leading into the Tadzewu township in the Ketu North Municipality, remains unrepaired for over two years.
The huge crater has left only one narrow lane available for vehicles, forcing drivers to take turns when two cars meet. Motorists say this situation creates serious traffic delays and heightens the risk of head-on collisions.
According to residents, the danger worsens at night and during rainfall when visibility is low and the pothole fills with muddy water. Drivers often struggle to see how deep it is, putting both lives and vehicles at risk.
“The worse part is that Wovenu SHS students use this road regularly. They walk and ride motorbikes every day, and we are afraid an accident could happen to them at any time,” a resident told Fafaa 100.3 FM.
“It’s very risky,” a driver added. “When two cars meet, one has to stop for the other to pass before moving. It’s been like this for over two years, and nothing has been done about it.”
Motorcyclists and commercial drivers say they spend more on repairs because of the deep hole and bumpy road surface. Some drivers also complain of losing customers who prefer to use alternative routes.
Local traders and market women add that business has slowed down, as many customers now avoid the Tadzewu road entirely. “People used to come from other communities to buy from us, but now they fear the road,” one trader lamented.
Residents believe that the continued neglect of the road reflects a lack of concern from authorities. “We have complained to the Assembly several times, but no action has been taken. Are they waiting for someone to die before fixing it?” another resident asked.
The residents, together with road users and people from nearby communities, are appealing to the Department of Urban Roads, the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, and all other relevant authorities to urgently repair the road before a serious accident occurs.
They are also calling on the Member of Parliament for the area and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to intervene and ensure a permanent solution is implemented. They stress that the road is vital for transportation, trade, and the safety of students.
Fafaa 100.3 FM, Dzodze, through its Agenda 2025 programme, has taken up the issue and is following up with the appropriate authorities to ensure swift intervention and lasting solutions to safeguard the lives of residents, travelers, and students.
