NPP Race: Presidential hopefuls to meet EC, Police

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that its presidential flagbearer aspirants will meet with the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, January 20, to finalise preparations ahead of the party’s highly anticipated January 31 primary.

The meeting, according to the party, will focus on security arrangements, police deployment, and operational readiness as the party prints its ballot papers and ramps up logistical preparations for the exercise.

Speaking to Citi News, Secretary to the Presidential Election Committee, William Yamoah, said the discussions will help ensure the primary is conducted smoothly and in line with electoral regulations.

“We have an urgent meeting with the EC and the Ghana Police Service, aspirants, and the committee, to discuss the police deployment plan, operational readiness, and strategy. The EC will also walk us through the protocol and their deployment plan for January 31. I must say that looking at all the issues and all the activity plan, we are almost through,” he said.

The NPP primary will feature five declared candidates: Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Former NPP General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.

The party’s leadership says the meeting is crucial to avoid last-minute hitches and ensure a transparent and credible selection process.
