As of February 11, 2026, His Excellency Dr. Gabriel Kwamiga Tanko Atokple, Council of State member representing the Volta Region, has completed his first year in office, marked by dedication, notable performance, and outstanding leadership. During his first year, Dr. Tanko Atokple has actively contributed to national advisory matters, offering insightful recommendations that have aided policy development and governance. His commitment to the welfare and development of the Volta Region has been evident through numerous initiatives and engagements with local communities, including his massive sponsorship of the annual Duamenefa Regional Youth and Sports Development Project
This performance assessment was disclosed by his spokesperson, Hon. Emmanuel Atokple. The spokesperson briefed the public on Dr. Tanko Atokple’s achievements during the Fafaa 100.3 Fm’s major news at 2pm. According to him, His Excellency performed exceptionally well as Council of State member. He highlighted that Dr. Tanko Atokple has supported communities in many ways such as, promotion of health, education, youth and sports, agriculture, governance, business, arts and culture, media, support for the implementation of the “big push”projects and other infrastructure developmental projects, etc.
Dr. Tanko Atokple always demonstrates leadership and compassion. On his birthday, he visited orphanage homes to provide support to the children. About a week later, the Tanko Foundation, which he founded, collaborates with the Duamenefa Foundation to provide care and support to several hospitals and orphanage homes within the Volta Region. This has been cited as a strong example of leadership in action. The spokesperson further stated that any community or event that invited Dr. Tanko Atokple receives his support, as he made it a priority to attend and contribute to the development of those communities or events whenever possible.
In addition, His Excellency has traveled outside the country to attract investors to the Volta Region, creating opportunities for economic growth and supporting local businesses. The spokesperson also noted that in his view, Dr. Tanko Atokple is performing very well among all Council of State members, and his tenure has made the office more visible and impactful to the public.
During his election for the position, some individuals questioned his eligibility due to his age, suggesting that intelligence and generosity alone were not enough. Today, his performance has proven that age is not a barrier to meaningful service. He has set a high standard in leadership, civic engagement, and community support.
