GES Vows Tough Sanctions Against Dzodze-Penyi SHS Headmaster if Misconduct Allegations Are Proven

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned that the headmaster of Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School will face severe disciplinary action if allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against him are substantiated.

This was revealed by Mr. Agoha Forgive, Public Relations Officer of the GES in the Volta Region, during an interview on Fafaa 100.3 FM’s Duamenefa Programme. He was responding to allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against the headmaster, Mr. Vidzro Yao Joshua

According to discussions on the programme, one student is reportedly pregnant, while another, a 14 year old first year student is said to have been sexually assaulted. The allegations are currently under investigation, and no final conclusions have been reached.

Mr. Agoha reiterated that the GES operates strictly within its laws, rules, and professional code of ethics, which explicitly forbid any teacher from engaging in sexual activity with a student. He noted that even if a student appears “willing” or acts in a suggestive manner, teachers have an absolute duty to maintain professional boundaries.

He stated that the GES Code of Conduct clearly outlines the consequences for such offenses, including summary dismissal, termination of contract, loss of benefits, and possible criminal prosecution that could result in imprisonment.

“Teachers are employed to guide, educate, and shape students into responsible citizens , not to take advantage of them,” Mr. Agoha emphasized. He urged all teachers to uphold the integrity of the profession by adhering to the Service’s regulations and refraining from conduct that could tarnish their reputation or harm students’ welfare.

He concluded that if the allegations against the Dzodze-Penyi SHS headmaster are confirmed, the GES will impose sanctions that serve as a strong deterrent to others within the education sector.

Investigations remain ongoing as the GES works to ensure the safety and protection of students while maintaining the highest professional standards.
