Volta Sports Stadium in Ruins – Hon. Edem Agbana Demands Urgent Action

20th October, 2025

Hon. Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has openly condemned the poor condition of the Volta Region’s main sports stadium, describing it as a source of shame and discomfort. He made this bold statement during his speech at the Duamenefa Grand Durbar, which was celebrated on 18th October 2025 at the Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School Park, attracting a large and vibrant crowd from across the region.

According to the MP, he felt “shy and not comfortable” when he saw the current state of the stadium, especially knowing that the region has so much untapped sporting potential. He emphasized that he made these remarks live on television, and although some individuals have criticized him for speaking out, he insists that he only spoke the truth.

Hon. Agbana did not spare his own party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), calling on the government to take action. “If my own NDC government does not do something about it, it will continue to disturb me,” he said passionately, urging swift intervention.

The MP also commended the efforts of the Duamenefa Foundation and the Tanko Foundation in their advocacy for the construction of an AstroTurf pitch in the Volta Region. He described their campaign as a “good call” and promised that the government would lend its support. “This is something already in the pipeline, and we will have to support it,” he added.

Demonstrating his personal commitment, Hon. Edem Agbana made a financial donation from his own pocket to support the Duamenefa Grand Durbar. He further revealed that additional support came from the NDC party, reflecting collective backing for the foundation’s initiatives.

He emphasized his ongoing dedication to the Duamenefa Foundation, stating that he always makes it a point to contribute personally to its programs. His continuous support for both the Duamenefa Foundation and the Tanko Foundation reflects his passion for youth empowerment and community development — a true mark of responsible and committed leadership.

The MP’s remarks and actions have sparked fresh conversations about the neglect of sports infrastructure in the Volta Region and renewed hope for development among the region’s youth and sports enthusiasts.
