Traditional Ruler Calls for Unity Among Chiefs Ahead of Duamenefa Grand Durbar

Ave Dakpa, Volta Region-
As preparations intensify for the much-anticipated Duamenefa Grand Durbar, the Duamenefa Foundation has begun reaching out to traditional council presidents across the Volta Region to assess their readiness and the state of chieftaincy affairs within their jurisdictions.

During a special edition of the Duamenefa Programme, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, held a conversation with Torgbiga Nyamekor Glakpe V, the Paramount Chief of the Ave Dakpa Traditional Area and President of the Council of Chiefs.

In his address, Torgbiga Nyamekor Glakpe V emphasized the urgent need for unity among traditional leaders, stating that a harmonious chieftaincy front has a direct and positive impact on the development and well-being of community members. “When chiefs are united, the people benefit. There is peace, development, and progress,” he said.

The conversation touched on the issue of chieftaincy disputes, which continue to plague many traditional areas across the region. Mr. Evortepe referenced a notable example shared by H E. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, a Council of State Member representing the Volta Region at the Presidency. According to him, a promising investment opportunity—a pharmaceutical center backed by Swiss investors in Galiza, Ehi—was stalled due to unresolved chieftaincy disputes and land ownership claims among local chiefs.

In response, Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V revealed that the Ave Dakpa Traditional Area currently enjoys relative peace, with no major chieftaincy disputes disrupting their activities. He acknowledged that there is a minor dispute presently being handled at the Regional House of Chiefs and expressed confidence that it would be resolved soon. “We are committed to resolving any internal issues through the appropriate legal and traditional channels. It is important for all chiefs to come together and work for the development of our communities,” he added.

Torgbiga concluded by confirming that they had officially received the invitation letter from the Duamenefa Foundation and assured that his traditional council would be present at the Grand Durbar. In response, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe expressed appreciation for their readiness and encouraged them to document and present any community challenges they are facing, so that the Duamenefa Foundation can help channel their concerns to the appropriate authorities. The Grand Durbar is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 18th October, 2025, at the Dzodze-Penyi SHS Park.
