The peaceful coexistence of chiefs within Afife should be replicated everywhere in Ghana – Duamenefa President

The President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, has commended the Afife Traditional Area for maintaining peace and unity in its chieftaincy affairs, urging other traditional areas in the Volta Region and beyond to emulate the example.

Speaking on Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa programme on Sunday, November 2, 2025, Mr. Evortepe emphasized that Afife remains free from any chieftaincy disputes concerning the paramount chief title.

According to him, investigations conducted by the Duamenefa Foundation revealed that the area, under the leadership of Torgbiga Adrakpanya VI, has maintained absolute peace and harmony without any contention over the paramount stool.

He stated that this commendable example should influence other traditional areas currently battling over paramount chief titles, citing the Weta Traditional Area as one such place where two chiefs are reportedly in dispute.

Mr. Evortepe explained that it is in recognition of this exemplary peace that the Duamenefa Foundation presented an award to the Afife Traditional Area and its paramount chief, Torgbiga Adrakpanya VI, for their continued efforts in sustaining stability and unity.

He expressed his hope that this peaceful atmosphere would endure and be extended to other traditional areas facing chieftaincy challenges.

The Duamenefa President further disclosed that the Foundation will soon begin official visits to various paramountcies to engage them in discussions aimed at promoting peace and preventing future disputes.

Mr. Evortepe noted that chieftaincy disputes have often hindered development in many communities, with prolonged conflicts creating divisions among families and residents. He stressed that learning from Afife’s example would not only strengthen traditional leadership but also contribute to overall community growth and social harmony.

He also highlighted the role of traditional councils and elders in maintaining peace, emphasizing that their guidance and commitment to dialogue were key factors in ensuring that disputes over the paramount chief title did not arise in Afife. Mr. Evortepe urged leaders in other areas to adopt similar approaches to dispute resolution.
