Suspect in Step Father’s Homicide Allegedly Commits Suicide

A body believed to be that of Mr. Foster Zoryiku, who was being sought by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the alleged killing of his stepfather, has been discovered in a river at Torgbeve in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.

Police are expected to conduct further investigations to confirm the identity of the deceased and establish the circumstances surrounding the death, while inquiries into the earlier homicide case continue.

According to reports, the initial incident occurred on June 4, 2026, when Mr. Zoryiku was alleged to have attacked his 74-year-old stepfather, Mr. Akakpo Amenyegbe, with a cutlass, resulting in his death.

Following the incident, the matter was reported to the Ghana Police Service, which launched a search for the suspect. Residents of the community also joined efforts to locate him after he reportedly fled the scene.

Speaking after interactions with residents and authorities, Duamenefa reporter Mr. Gabriel Dogbey, who has been closely monitoring developments, recounted the sequence of events that led to the discovery.

According to Mr. Dogbey, the suspect allegedly returned briefly to the family home after the incident but fled again when residents attempted to apprehend him. He reportedly ran toward a nearby river and was not seen again.

Community members indicated that both residents and security personnel had been searching for him for several days, with concern growing as the search yielded no results.

Mr. Dogbey further explained that on June 13, 2026, a fisherman reportedly raised an alarm after detecting a strong odour while fishing in the river, leading to suspicions that something unusual might be in the water.

The following day, residents and local authorities organized a search of the area. During the exercise, a decomposing body was reportedly discovered in the river.

The body is suspected to be that of Mr. Zoryiku, although official identification has not yet been completed.

Mr. Dogbey, who was among those present at the scene, said the discovery shocked residents and heightened concern within the community. He noted that the condition of the body made immediate identification difficult, necessitating further examination by the relevant authorities.

He also spoke with the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Christian Dziwornu, who described the incident as unfortunate and called for patience while investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service has since been notified of the discovery and is expected to undertake the necessary forensic and identification procedures to determine the identity of the deceased and establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, traditional authorities and community leaders in Torgbeve have appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations progress.

They urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies and refrain from spreading unverified information that could undermine the investigative process.

The discovery has generated widespread discussion within the community, with many residents expressing sadness over the tragic turn of events and hoping for clarity once official findings are released.

Authorities are expected to provide further information after investigations and identification processes have been completed.
