The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, has stated that the Foundation does not take up every petition brought before it, but carefully assesses each case based on its severity, importance and urgency before deciding whether to intervene.
Mr. Evortepe made the statement on the airwaves of Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme.
According to him, before the Foundation decides to intervene in any petition, it carefully considers the content, circumstances and seriousness of the matter to determine whether it requires public attention or can be handled privately.
He explained that not every petition received by the Foundation is allowed to be carried on air. Some matters, he said, are considered family issues and may be better handled privately rather than being discussed publicly.
Mr. Evortepe noted that the Foundation exercises caution when dealing with sensitive matters because taking every petition on air could expose individuals and families to unnecessary public scrutiny.
He, however, stressed that petitions involving serious circumstances, particularly those in which lives may be at risk, receive special attention from the Foundation and may require urgent intervention.
His comments came after the Duamenefa Foundation received a petition from a man who alleged that his own mother was responsible for the spiritual illness affecting his two university students.
According to the petitioner, the condition of his two sons had become so severe that they had to drop out of university after reportedly suffering from what the family described as, strange mental disorder
The allegation has raised concerns about the wellbeing of the two young men, their education and the circumstances surrounding their reported condition.
Mr. Evortepe said a case of such nature cannot be treated lightly, stressing that the Foundation must carefully examine the circumstances before determining the appropriate course of action.
He explained that the Foundation’s intervention process involves listening to the concerns of petitioners and assessing the information presented before deciding whether the matter should be discussed in the public domain
He further emphasised that the Foundation is not simply interested in broadcasting allegations, but in using its platform to help address genuine social problems and seek possible solutions for individuals and families facing difficult situations.
Mr. Evortepe also stated that the Duamenefa Foundation collaborates with relevant institutions and traditional authorities when dealing with serious cases, particularly those requiring urgent attention and coordinated intervention.
He said such collaboration is important because some cases require the involvement of institutions and traditional leaders with the appropriate authority and expertise to help protect vulnerable people and save lives.
According to him, the seriousness of a petition, the number of people potentially affected and the possibility of harm are among the factors that influence the Foundation’s decision to intervene.
Mr. Evortepe also called on members of the public to provide accurate information when submitting petitions and to understand that sensitive family matters may not always be suitable for public discussion.
He said the Foundation would continue to prioritise petitions that require urgent attention while ensuring that the rights, dignity and privacy of those involved are given due consideration.
He reiterated that the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme is intended to provide a platform for people with genuine concerns, particularly those whose situations require mediation, assistance or other forms of intervention.
Mr. Evortepe assured the public that petitions brought before the Foundation would be carefully assessed and handled according to their individual circumstances, with priority given to cases where the consequences of inaction could be serious.
He said the Foundation remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders, institutions and traditional authorities to promote peace, protect vulnerable individuals and contribute to resolving social and family-related challenges within communities.
