The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, has cautioned the public to be mindful of their words, stressing that careless speech can trigger misunderstandings, conflicts and disputes.
He said although the tongue is a small part of the human body, the words it produces can have significant consequences when not used responsibly.
Mr. Evortepe made the remarks on Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme, where he spoke about the importance of responsible communication and the need for individuals to exercise restraint in their speech.
According to him, several cases brought before the Duamenefa Foundation for investigation have demonstrated how words spoken during disagreements can contribute to the escalation of conflicts.
He said some disputes could have been avoided if the parties involved had exercised greater caution in their choice of words and the manner in which they communicated.
Words can escalate conflicts
Mr. Evortepe warned individuals to be particularly careful with their speech during moments of anger or disagreement.
He noted that words spoken without proper consideration can have lasting effects on relationships and may turn minor misunderstandings into serious disputes.
He therefore encouraged the public to think carefully before speaking and to develop the habit of listening and understanding others before responding.
According to him, patience and wisdom in communication are important tools for preventing unnecessary conflicts and maintaining peaceful relationships.
Impact on families and businesses
The Executive President further observed that relationships, businesses and family ties can suffer when people make statements without considering their possible consequences.
He said disagreements are a normal part of human interaction, but the manner in which people communicate during such moments can determine whether a situation is resolved peacefully or becomes more complicated.
He urged individuals to avoid provocative statements and language that could inflame tensions, particularly when dealing with sensitive family or community matters.
Learning from disputes
Mr. Evortepe called on the public to learn from cases handled by the Duamenefa Foundation and take preventive steps before disagreements escalate into major conflicts.
He explained that the Foundation’s interventions are not limited to resolving disputes but also seek to educate individuals on how conflicts can be prevented in the first place.
He encouraged members of the public to exercise self-control, listen to one another and seek peaceful dialogue whenever disagreements arise.
A call for responsible speech
Mr. Evortepe concluded by urging the public to value peace and unity and to recognise the power of responsible communication in building stronger relationships and communities.
He reiterated that although the tongue may be small, its impact can be significant when words are used without caution.
