The Duamenefa Foundation says it has received a petition from Klikor-Tsivloli in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region concerning a feared fetish priest, Hunor Ayi, who was widely accused of terrorising residents and publicly boasting about his alleged juju and voodoo powers.
According to the Foundation, the deceased was alleged to have created fear within the community through activities and practices that reportedly affected the daily lives of residents for several years. The situation is said to have generated tension within the area, prompting the Duamenefa Foundation to intervene and investigate the matter, after which some level of calm was reportedly restored.
The Foundation further stated that during the course of its investigations, Hunor Ayi allegedly warned officials of the Foundation against probing into his activities, insisting that no one had the authority to investigate him.
Reports reaching the Foundation now indicate that the self-acclaimed powerful juju and voodoo practitioner has died. However, following his death, residents of the community are reportedly unwilling to associate themselves with his body or funeral arrangements due to fear linked to his alleged past activities.
Speaking to the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, Torgbi Kornu IV explained that after hearing about the death, he advised some community elders to visit the deceased’s residence to gather accurate information, but they allegedly declined out of fear and concern over the man’s past conduct.
According to him, when news of the death became clearer, some of the deceased’s children later approached him for assistance regarding funeral arrangements. However, they were reportedly advised to first address unresolved concerns between the deceased and members of the community before any burial plans could proceed.
Torgbi Kornu IV further alleged that the late fetish priest had gained a reputation for portraying himself as spiritually powerful and instilling fear among residents. He said several complaints had previously been brought before him concerning the man’s alleged practices.
He also recounted an incident in which the deceased was allegedly accused of placing charms on a charcoal kiln, an act that reportedly made it difficult for workers to complete production and transport charcoal to the market.
In another allegation, the deceased’s wife was also said to have confronted him over claims that he placed black powder at the entrance of her room.
Torgbi Kornu IV explained that the deceased inherited his spiritual background from his father, who reportedly lived to about 90 years old and was known for practicing traditional voodoo worship in a more respected and peaceful manner. He, however, expressed concern over the alleged direction taken by the late Hunor Ayi during his lifetime.
He further noted that the death of the fetish priest should serve as a lesson to others involved in similar practices within communities.
The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, used the opportunity to caution the public that all beliefs and traditional practices must be exercised within the framework of the laws of Ghana. He stressed that although death is inevitable for everyone, people should strive to live in a way that leaves behind peace, respect, and positive memories rather than fear and controversy.
Mr. Evortepe also expressed concern about what he described as growing fear and silence within some communities, where alleged spiritual intimidation cases are often left unreported until tensions escalate unnecessarily.
He emphasized that community education, dialogue, and cooperation among traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents are essential in reducing fear, suspicion, and misunderstanding within communities.
According to him, the mission of the Duamenefa Foundation is to promote peace and lawful resolution of disputes, urging residents to report concerns early instead of allowing fear or retaliation to worsen situations.
He further called on security agencies and traditional authorities to strengthen collaboration in addressing alleged cases of spiritual intimidation to help maintain peace and protect vulnerable persons within society.
