All is set for the highly anticipated Duamenefa Regional Marathon. The competition is scheduled to kick off on September 6, 2024, at 4:30 a.m.
Since its inception, in the year 2017, the Duamenefa Regional Marathon has significantly contributed to the development of athletic talent within the Volta Region and beyond.
According to Wisdom Dovlo, the Head of Sports of Fafaa 100.3 Fm, the registration for the 2024 edition commenced in January and concluded on July 31, 2024. A total of 60 athletes have signed up to participate. This number comprises 43 males and 17 females.
The event is expected to draw a large crowd, with spectators lining the streets from Denu to Dzodze to witness the thrilling marathon. The men’s course spans 25 kilometers from the Denu junction to the Dzodze Demonstration Park, while the women’s course covers 18 kilometers from Wudoaba to the Dzodze Demonstration Park.
On September 5, 2024, all participating athletes will undergo a comprehensive medical examination to assess their physical conditions and ensure their fitness for the marathon. This thorough medical assessment prioritizes the athletes’ health and well-being, allowing them to compete at their best while minimizing potential health risks.
The winners will be chosen from first to fifth place for both male and female categories for the award.
Additionally, all participants will receive a token of appreciation.
Notably, Torgbui Nyaxordeakorla I, Hon. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, is the prime sponsor of the over Ghc 300,000.00 budget tournament. In addition to the marathon competition, are football, volleyball, and tug of peace. The Grand Durbar is scheduled to take place on Saturday, the 7th day of September 2024.
Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and CEO of Fafaa 100.3 Fm, in his statement claimed “The primary objective of the tournament is to use the game of sports as a mechanism for peaceful coexistence of people in the various communities and to unearth the hidden talents embedded in youth for onward promotion to the next level.”
