The Duamenefa Foundation has commenced investigations into allegations of a spiritual attack reportedly linked to a dispute between two men over a woman in Aflao, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The case was brought before the Foundation through a petition submitted by Madam Enyonam Abotsi, who alleged that her 21-year-old son, Norbert Vinyakor, developed a mysterious illness following an altercation with another man, identified as Sunday Agbeviade.
According to the petition, the family sought medical treatment at several hospitals, but doctors were reportedly unable to determine the cause of Norbert’s condition. After unsuccessful medical consultations, the family allegedly sought spiritual guidance from a soothsayer, who claimed that the illness was connected to a dispute involving another man over a woman.
Madam Abotsi stated that after receiving the spiritual revelation, she questioned her son about the incident. According to the petition, Norbert explained that during the Christmas festivities, he had taken his girlfriend to a hotel. While they were together, the woman reportedly excused herself but failed to return after some time.
Concerned, Norbert allegedly went in search of her and found her engaged in a heated argument with another man. When he inquired about the situation, his girlfriend allegedly identified the man as her former boyfriend, Sunday Agbeviade.
The petition further alleged that the disagreement escalated into a confrontation between the two men, during which Sunday reportedly threatened Norbert. Following the encounter, Norbert allegedly returned home feeling unwell and later began experiencing persistent health challenges.
Madam Abotsi claimed that for nearly two years, her son has continued to suffer from the condition, leaving him unable to live comfortably.
She further stated that she later visited the residence of the accused to discuss the matter and seek a possible resolution but alleged that she was not well received.
According to the petition, the matter was subsequently referred to traditional authorities, who invited both parties in an attempt to resolve the dispute amicably. The case also reportedly received the attention of the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V.
Madam Abotsi alleged that despite the intervention and directives of the traditional authorities, the accused failed to comply, prompting the family to petition the Duamenefa Foundation for further assistance.
The Foundation has appealed to all parties to remain calm while investigations continue. It stated that its priority is to safeguard the wellbeing of the alleged victim while establishing the facts surrounding the claims.
The Foundation is expected to engage all parties involved as part of efforts to determine the circumstances of the case and facilitate a peaceful resolution.
The incident occurred in Aflao, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region. The allegations remain claims made by the petitioner and have not been independently established. Investigations are ongoing.
