Come to Our Rescue – Avadre Community Clarion Call on Duamenefa Foundation For Intervention
24th February, 2026
Residents of Avadre community in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region have called on the Duamenefa Foundation to urgently intervene in what they describe as a growing rise in harmful juju practices within the area. According to community members, the increasing use of such practices is creating fear and tension, putting the lives and safety of residents at risk.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Robert Gadasu, the youth chief, narrated the incidents and called on the Foundation for immediate action. He made these statements while addressing a terrible harmful juju practice by Madam Etey Fometu, against her husband, Mr. Mamaa Ali, a diabolical action resulting in the death of their 8 year old daughter.
Mr. Gadasu explained that the situation arose when it was alleged that Kofi Gede gave a juju charm to Ete Fometu, which she buried at the compound of her husband. Tragically, their daughter later died. In a separate incident, the same man reportedly gave juju powers to another individual in the community, which were allegedly used against someone else, resulting in another death.
Describing these actions as unacceptable and dangerous, the youth chief emphasized that some individuals were using spiritual powers to threaten others, creating fear and preventing people from acting freely. He stressed that such behavior puts the entire community at risk and underscored the urgent need for intervention by the Foundation to restore peace, safety, and order.
Community members are appealing to the Foundation to conduct a thorough investigation, educate residents on the dangers of harmful juju practices, and collaborate with lawful agencies to ensure that such incidents do not recur. They expressed hope that swift action would prevent further tragedies and reassure families that their children and loved ones are safe.
The youth chief also called on other communities in the Akatsi South Municipality to remain vigilant and report similar practices to the Foundation or local authorities, emphasizing that community solidarity is key to tackling dangerous spiritual practices.
The community leaders remain hopeful that their clarion call on the Duamenefa Foundation for intervention will yield the desire results
Mr. Gadasu also noted that the psychological impact on families and children is significant, with many community members living in constant fear and anxiety. He called on mental health professionals and social workers to work alongside the Foundation to provide counseling and support for affected families.
Finally, the community appealed to government authorities, nongovernmental organizations, and religious leaders to join forces in sensitizing the public about the dangers of harmful spiritual practices. They emphasized that only coordinated efforts combining legal enforcement, education, and community awareness can effectively curb these dangerous activities.
