Ethical Principles of Journalism is Our Hallmark — Duamenefa Foundation Executive President

Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Fafaa 100.3 FM, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to professional and ethical standards of journalism, comprising nothing but the truth and accuracy, fairness and impartiality, independence, accountability and transparency, humanity and minimal harm, stressing that the station will not tolerate intimidation or interference from any individual or group.

He made this statement on the airwaves of Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme while addressing a fresh allegation against a Dzodze-Penyi SHS teacher who has been accused of allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with a final-year student.

According to Mr. Evortepe, the station’s decision to report on the matter is guided purely by its responsibility to inform the public and promote accountability. He explained that the issue became a subject of discussion due to its seriousness and the public interest it has generated within the community.

Mr. Evortepe recalled that this is not the first time Fafaa 100.3 FM and the Duamenefa Foundation have faced criticism for carrying out their journalistic duties. He noted that when previous allegation were made against the headmaster of the same school and the station reported on it, some individuals responded with insults and attacks directed at both the station and the Foundation.

“We practice journalism according to the law and professional standards. Our work is guided by truth, fairness, with the public interest at heart. We will not allow interference from anyone, including so-called pocket lawyers who attempt to intimidate or silence us,” he stated firmly.

He emphasized that responsible journalism requires thorough verification of facts before publication or broadcast. According to him, Fafaa 100.3 FM strictly applies the principles of the 5Ws and 1H — who, what, when, where, why, and how — in its reporting, noting that without these essential elements, a news story is incomplete and unprofessional.

Mr. Evortepe further stressed that the station operates within the confines of the law and respects due process. He explained that all parties involved in any allegation are given the opportunity to respond in line with the principles of balance and fairness, adding that the objective is not to tarnish reputations but to ensure accountability.

He also highlighted the importance of protecting students and safeguarding educational environments, stating that matters involving alleged misconduct in schools must be treated with seriousness and transparency. He said the media has a duty to bring such concerns to light while allowing the appropriate authorities to investigate.

Calling for calm, Mr. Evortepe urged the public to avoid personal attacks and instead support responsible journalism. He also strongly advised that individuals or groups attempting to politicize the issue should stop, emphasizing that the matter should be left to the law and proper authorities to handle without interference. He encouraged relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the allegations and ensure that justice and due process prevail.

He concluded by assuring listeners that Fafaa 100.3 FM remains committed to credible, independent, and professional journalism, and will continue to serve the community with integrity despite any challenges or attempts at intimidation.
