Wovenu Senior High School : Unfortunate Diversion of School Feeding Program Foodstuffs – MCE Laments

Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North Municipal Assembly, has called on the media to continue following up on the alleged theft at Wovenu Senior High School (SHS) and report the facts to the public. His statement came during a recent media engagement, where he emphasized the importance of thorough and accurate reporting.

The call comes after it was alleged that the matron of Wovenu SHS, in collaboration with others, stole food items from the school. According to Hon. Rev. Amenaki, when he visited the scene, some people advised him not to mention the name of the school. However, he insisted that the public should know the truth, stating that the incident happened at Wovenu SHS in Tadzewu, Ketu North Municipal Assembly.

He urged journalists to follow up on the news, uncover all relevant facts, and report them accurately to the public. “It is important that the truth reaches the people. The media must investigate, verify, and ensure the full story is shared with the community,” he said.

According to Hon. Rev. Amenaki, the media plays a critical role in ensuring transparency and accountability in cases of public concern. He commended media organizations for their persistent coverage of community issues, noting that dedicated follow-up reporting helps protect the rights of those affected and ensures that justice is served.

He stressed that the media should not only highlight concerns but also provide a platform for truth and clarity in such matters. The lawmaker also encouraged the public to support responsible journalism, emphasizing that accurate reporting strengthens democracy and fosters public trust in institutions.

Hon. Rev. Amenaki also informed the public, particularly those who do not fully understand how the media operates, that it is the media’s responsibility to carry out news coverage without interference from anyone. He noted that journalists have a duty to investigate and report facts independently to ensure the public receives truthful and reliable information.

The incident at Wovenu SHS has raised broader concerns about school management and oversight in the region. Community members and parents have lamented the situation, questioning whether such incidents hinder the development of SHS schools. They also wondered whether mismanagement of school resources is the reason why the food provided to students is often insufficient for their needs.

Education stakeholders have highlighted the importance of transparency in handling school funds and supplies. Advocates argue that ensuring accountability not only protects students’ welfare but also preserves public confidence in the education system. Incidents such as this underscore the need for regular audits and clear reporting structures in schools.

Furthermore, the case has brought attention to the vital role of media in promoting good governance in education. By investigating and reporting such matters, journalists serve as a bridge between institutions and the public, helping communities stay informed and empowering them to demand accountability from school authorities and local government officials.

Through his statement, Hon. Rev. Amenaki reaffirmed his commitment to transparency in public affairs and expressed confidence that the media would rise to the challenge of delivering accurate and timely information to the people.
