The Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC), in close consultation with the Ministry of Interior, has temporarily closed the Ho Central Mosque, for a duration of two (2) weeks, commencing from Thursday, 1st January, 2026.
This is contained in a press release dated December 31.
“Additionally, the location under dispute is hereby declared a crime scene to facilitate further investigation until a permanent resolution is achieved concerning the ongoing impasse. This directive has been deemed essential following an urgent meeting convened by the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Monday, 29th December, 2025 to address troubling developments within the Muslim community of Ho. This involved two (2) individuals asserting claims to the position of Regional Chief Imam,” the press release signed by the Regional Minister further stated.
“This decision has been taken solely in the interest of peace, unity, and the long-term stability of the Muslim Community in Ho. The temporary closure will provide a calm and neutral environment to facilitate mediation efforts aimed at resolving ongoing disputes and restoring harmony among all parties involved,” the Regional Security Council explained.
The Regional Security Council (REGSEC), believes that peaceful dialogue is the most powerful tool for resolving differences, and this period will be used to engage all stakeholders constructively to achieve a lasting and amicable resolution.
REGSEC appealed to the two feuding factions “to exercise restraint, embrace dialogue, and give peace a genuine chance.
“The safety of worshippers, the sanctity of the mosque, and the unity of the community remain our highest priorities. We are confident that with cooperation, mutual respect, and sincere commitment to peace, the Ho Central Mosque will soon reopen to serve its rightful purpose as a place of worship, unity, and spiritual growth for all.
It is recalled that on December 26, at least, fifteen (15) people were arrested by the police following a sporadic shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque.
