The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ketu North Municipality, Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki, has urged teachers of Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School (Dzosec) to treat their students as their own children and prioritize their welfare at all times.
He made this appeal during an interaction on Fafaa 100.3 FM, between himself and Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, the executive president of the Duamenefa Foundation and CEO of Fafaa 100.3 Fm.
The discussion followed allegations of sexual harassment female students involving the headmaster and some teachers of the school
Hon. Rev. Amenaki stated that he is fully aware that the Ghana Education Service (GES) is investigating the matter and he is patiently waiting for the outcome of the investigation. He therefore appealed to all stakeholders—parents, teachers, students, and the general public—to exercise patience and allow due process to take its course.
According to the MCE, the ongoing investigation should not create panic or unrest. He assured parents that their children at Dzodze-Penyi SHS are safe and appealed to the public not to describe Dzosec as a bad school, stressing that authorities are committed to addressing any challenges confronting the institution.
He explained that if the allegations are proven to be true, appropriate solutions will be implemented, and if they are found to be false, “glory be to God.” He emphasized that no effort will be spared to protect the integrity and progress of the school.
The MCE also revealed that he is a professional teacher with over 23 years of teaching experience and a proud alumnus of Dzodze-Penyi SHS. For this reason, he said, neither he nor the municipal authorities would sit idle and allow the school to collapse. He disclosed that he has personally visited the school twice since the allegations began trending and confirmed that academic activities are progressing normally.
Hon. Rev. Amenaki further disclosed that some teachers had earlier approached him with concerns after their names were mentioned on live radio during the Duamenefa Foundation’s investigation into the matter. He said he calmed their fears and assured them that their names were not mentioned for any bad reason. He encouraged them to relax, remain focused, and continue doing their good work without fear or distraction.
On his part, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, on behalf of the Duamenefa Foundation and Fafaa 100.3 FM, clarified that the mention of teachers’ names on the airwaves was not done with any bad intention. He explained that it was merely a roll call to inform parents and the general public that those teachers are teaching at Dzodze-Penyi SHS, so parents can identify them and approach them for assistance when necessary.
The MCE noted that nothing brings more joy to a teacher than seeing students succeed in their examinations, which is why teachers must nurture, guide, and protect students as their own children. He therefore appealed to teachers to continue giving their best for the benefit of the students and the school.
He also advised students, particularly female students, to remain focused on their studies and avoid distractions that could expose them to trouble or make them victims of the ongoing allegations.
He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and relevant stakeholders to ensure that Dzodze-Penyi SHS remains a safe, disciplined, and reputable institution.
