Ehi community under security scrutiny

Ehi, a community in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, is currently under heavy security scrutiny following an alleged attack on the local police station by some residents. The unrest reportedly erupted after a violent altercation among residents which resulted in the death of one person.

According to reports, a suspect involved in the incident allegedly stabbed another individual during a confrontation, leading to the victim’s death. The suspect was said to have rushed to the Ehi Police Station to surrender himself, where he was detained by officers as investigations began.

However, tension escalated when some residents reportedly stormed the police station, demanding that the suspect be released to them so they could “deal with him” themselves. The officers refused to comply, citing professional protocol, which allegedly angered the crowd.

In the chaos that followed, the irate residents were said to have vandalized parts of the police station, set fire to a vehicle under investigation, broke doors, and attacked some officers, causing injuries. Reports further indicate that the mob managed to access the suspect in custody and allegedly beat him severely. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

Due to the incident, the Ehi Police Station has been temporarily closed as investigations continue. Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further disturbances.

Meanwhile, during the Intervention Morning Show on Fafaa 100.3 FM, hosted by Abass Seidu, an eyewitness identified as Fo. Promise disclosed that security enforcement agencies are currently in Ehi conducting arrests as part of ongoing investigations.

According to the eyewitness, the officers arrived in large numbers at dawn and began moving from house to house, allegedly breaking doors and picking up residents suspected to be involved in the earlier attack. He added that the operation has caused tension in the community as the exercise continues.

This development has sparked anxiety among residents, raising several questions. Some community members are asking whether it is appropriate for the police to carry out such an operation in this manner, while others are questioning the actions of the residents who attacked the police station and officers. A section of the residents also emphasized that “the law is the law” and that all actions—both by the authorities and the public—must be guided by legal procedures to ensure peace and stability in the community.

At the end of the program, Fafaa 100.3 FM assured listeners that the station will continue to follow up on the development and provide updates as the situation unfolds. The station also urged residents of Ehi to remain calm, exercise patience, and act in accordance with the law and local regulations to help maintain peace in the community.

Furthermore, Fafaa 100.3 FM appealed to the general public that, regardless of how tense or emotional the situation may become, no one should take the law into their own hands, reminding everyone that Ghana is governed and guided by the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, which ensures justice and order for all citizens.

Authorities have yet to officially comment on the ongoing security operation, but sources indicate that investigations are underway to bring those responsible for the attack to justice and restore calm in Ehi.
