Torgbui Kpemini Gawu V, a respected traditional ruler of WHUTI, in the Anloga District of the Volta Region has commended the Duamenefa Foundation for the vital work they are doing to protect lives, uphold justice, and expose harmful practices within communities.
Speaking live on Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa Programme on Sunday, Torgbui praised the Foundation’s efforts in ensuring peace and transparency in the Volta Region and beyond.
His commendation followed a report on a recent arbitration involving the Nutakor family and the Tormife Shrine, which centered on disturbing allegations of offering human being, a virgin girl, in servitude to the gods. The investigation revealed that a fetish priest, operating outside the Tormife Shrine, had misled the Nutakor family into believing they were required to provide a human being as a form of spiritual servitude to appease the gods of the shrine.
According to Torgbui Kpemini Gawu, this act of deception could have resulted in serious consequences for the family if not for the timely intervention of the Duamenefa Foundation, led by the Executive President, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe. The arbitration process, facilitated with support from the Foundation, exposed the misconduct of the priest involved. The fetish priest of the Tormife Shrine, Tronua Xornuvia Legbavi, was fined for unethical conduct and for almost causing the Nutakor family to engage in an unconstitutional act. Torgbui also noted that other parties involved in the matter received their appropriate cautions during the arbitration.
The Duamenefa Foundation, represented by its Executive President and CEO of Fafaa 100.3 FM, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, expressed sincere appreciation for the role played by Torgbui Kpemini Gawu, his retinue of chiefs, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Centre for National Culture represented by Mr. Patrick Dunyo, Torgbui Hunor Gbeti (the representative of Duamenefa Foundation), and every other stakeholders who contributed to the peaceful resolution of the matter.
Thanks to the collaborative effort, a long-awaited resolution has been reached, and the Nutakor family is now free to collect their deceased relative — who has been kept at the mortuary for about almost a year due to misconceptions and allegations of mystic superstitions attached to the death of the deceased, which was found to be untrue — to proceed with the burial processes without further spiritual or traditional hindrance.
The Duamenefa Foundation has officially concluded its investigation and intervention and reaffirmed its mandate to protect the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. In addition, the Foundation urged all shrines and traditional practitioners to uphold the truth and abide by the provisions of the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
Mr. Evortepe further states that they must ensure that all actions taken are in line with what is right, just, and permitted under the laws of Ghana. The Foundation reiterated that harmful practices disguised as tradition must not be tolerated and that culture must work hand in hand with the Constitution to preserve life, peace, and dignity.
This successful investigation and intervention is recorded as the 697th life saved by the Duamenefa Foundation within the period of 15 years of its operations.
