The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Keta Municipality in the Volta Region, Hon. Wisdom Seade, has commended the Duamenefa Foundation and Treasures of His Eyes for introducing a free skills acquisition training programme aimed at empowering people with practical skills for self-reliance and employment.
Hon. Wisdom Seade made the commendation during his official visit to the training centre of the initiative in Keta on Friday, September 11, 2026, where he interacted with trainers and beneficiaries participating in the programme.
The initiative, introduced by the two non-governmental organisations (NGOs), provides free practical training in various vocational skills, giving beneficiaries the opportunity to acquire knowledge and experience that could help them establish their own businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking in an interaction with Madam Fafali Bobobee of Fafaa 100.3 FM, Hon. Seade described the initiative as a very good and laudable one and expressed his appreciation to the Duamenefa Foundation and Treasures of His Eyes for their efforts in providing the training free of charge.
According to him, the initiative is particularly important because it gives people the opportunity to acquire practical skills without having to worry about the cost of training.
Hon. Seade recalled that during his time as an Assembly Member, he took some people to Accra to acquire similar skills. He said he was therefore pleased that the Duamenefa Foundation and Treasures of His Eyes had now brought such an opportunity directly to Keta for residents to benefit.
He encouraged residents, particularly the youth, to take the initiative seriously, stressing that the skills they acquire could become a source of livelihood and help them become self-reliant.
He further stated that when the youth take the initiative seriously and commit themselves to learning the various skills, it would greatly benefit them in the future. According to him, the skills acquired could enable them to earn an income, establish their own businesses and survive without depending solely on formal employment.
During his visit to the training centre, the MCE observed participants receiving practical training in various areas, including batik, tie-dye and soap making, among others.
He expressed satisfaction with the practical nature of the training and described what he saw at the centre as encouraging and commendable.
Hon. Seade urged the beneficiaries not to take the opportunity for granted but to learn diligently, master the skills being taught and put their knowledge into practice.
He noted that in some places, people are required to pay money before they can acquire similar vocational skills, making the decision by the Duamenefa Foundation and Treasures of His Eyes to provide the training free of charge a commendable initiative.
He therefore praised the two organisations for bringing the programme to Keta and encouraged them to sustain and expand the initiative so that more people in the municipality could benefit.
The MCE also called on other organisations, individuals and stakeholders to support programmes that seek to equip the youth and other members of the community with practical and employable skills.
He stressed that skills acquisition and entrepreneurship could help address unemployment, improve livelihoods and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Keta Municipality.
Hon. Seade concluded by encouraging all beneficiaries to remain committed to the training and make maximum use of the opportunity provided by the Duamenefa Foundation and Treasures of His Eyes.
