The Duamenefa Foundation has issued a reminder to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to put a stop to what it describes as unannounced power outages, calling for timely communication to residents whenever there is an interruption in power supply.
The message was officially delivered by the Executive President of the Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, on the airwaves of Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme.
According to Mr. Evortepe, the Duamenefa Foundation had earlier issued a press release concerning frequent power outages by ECG, which he said had become a source of worry and concern for residents.
He noted that despite the Foundation’s earlier concerns, the situation had resurfaced, particularly in the Ketu North Municipality, prompting the Foundation to issue another reminder.
Mr. Evortepe explained that the immediate reason for the latest reminder was the power outage recorded on Wednesday, September 2, and Thursday, September 3, 2026, across parts of Ketu North, which he said occurred without any prior information from ECG.
He said the absence of prior communication had brought hardship and anxiety to residents, especially individuals and businesses that rely on electricity for their daily operations.
According to him, residents deserve to know in advance when power supply will be interrupted so they can make the necessary arrangements to minimise the impact on their activities.
“This is unfair and should not be like this,” Mr. Evortepe said, stressing the need for ECG to take the concerns of residents seriously.
He acknowledged that maintenance and other technical works are necessary in every institution, including ECG, but maintained that such activities should be properly communicated to the public.
He explained that when power is disconnected without prior notice, residents are often caught unprepared, resulting in disruptions to their businesses, household activities and other essential services.
Mr. Evortepe further appealed to ECG to improve its communication with communities, particularly when outages are planned, so that residents can adequately prepare themselves.
He also urged the government to look into the recurring power outages and provide the necessary attention to the concerns being raised by residents in Ketu North.
The Executive President also commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he described as the good work it is undertaking across the country. He specifically mentioned the government’s BIG PUSH agenda and the ongoing road construction projects in various parts of the country.
However, Mr. Evortepe stressed that ongoing development projects should not be used as an excuse for failing to address challenges associated with electricity supply.
He called on the government to find lasting solutions to the power outages and ensure that residents are not subjected to unnecessary hardship as a result of interruptions in power supply.
Mr. Evortepe also urged all affiliates and stakeholders connected to ECG to do the needful and work towards resolving the challenges affecting electricity supply.
He said efforts should be intensified to ensure that Ketu North, as well as other affected communities across Ghana, is eventually free from the challenges associated with frequent and unannounced power outages.
According to him, the Foundation’s concern is not against legitimate maintenance work but rather the lack of adequate information to residents who are directly affected by the interruptions.
He said effective communication between ECG and consumers would help reduce anxiety and prevent unnecessary inconvenience whenever there is a need to interrupt power supply.
Mr. Evortepe stressed that access to reliable electricity remains important to the socio-economic activities of communities and that disruptions without adequate notice can have a significant impact on residents and businesses.
He therefore appealed to ECG, the government and all relevant stakeholders to take the concerns seriously and work towards improving the reliability of power supply in Ketu North and other parts of the country.
The Duamenefa Foundation says it will continue to advocate for issues affecting residents and engage the relevant authorities where necessary to ensure that concerns about essential services receive the appropriate attention.
