An ongoing controversy surrounding Madam Agbeyeye, who identifies herself as a prophetess, has sparked public discussion about divine revelation, prophecy and how claims of messages from God should be examined in accordance with the Bible.

The matter is reportedly unfolding at Tadzewu in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, where Madam Agbeyeye claims to have received a revelation that “the top of the valley is dark” and that she was required to go there and “put on the light.”

According to her account, the alleged instruction led her to begin burning firewood and praying around the fire on a regular basis.

The unusual nature of the activity has attracted public attention and raised questions about the biblical interpretation of the alleged revelation, particularly the meaning of the instruction to “put on the light” and whether the actions that followed can be supported by Scripture.

The matter has also been linked to the reported presence of a woman who, according to accounts presented to the Duamenefa Foundation, left her family and has remained with Madam Agbeyeye.

Madam Agbeyeye reportedly explained that the woman was not staying with her without reason but that she believed it was God’s will for the woman to remain with her.

According to her account, attempts to make the woman leave were allegedly followed by unusual incidents. She reportedly claimed that, on some occasions, she experienced incidents such as being struck by a stick and sustaining injuries.

She interpreted these experiences as indications that God did not want the woman to leave.

She further claimed that the woman herself encountered difficulties whenever she attempted to leave, including an occasion when the woman allegedly fainted.

The claims have generated questions among members of the public about whether such incidents, on their own, can be regarded as evidence of a divine instruction.

The development has therefore broadened the discussion to issues of prophecy, spiritual authority, divine revelation and the responsibility of Christians to test spiritual claims.

During an interaction with Madam Agbeyeye, the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, an Evangelist and student of the Bible, used biblical passages to examine the claims and discuss principles of spiritual discernment.

Mr. Evortepe referred to Hebrews 1:1–2, explaining that the Bible records God speaking to people in various ways through the prophets and, in these last days, through His Son, Jesus Christ.

He also referred to Numbers 12:6, which speaks of God making Himself known through visions and dreams.

Mr. Evortepe, however, emphasised that the biblical record of dreams, visions and prophetic messages does not mean that every dream, vision, prophecy or unusual experience should automatically be accepted as coming from God.

He cited 1 John 4:1, which instructs believers to test the spirits to determine whether they are from God.

He further referred to Matthew 7:15–20, where Jesus warned about false prophets and instructed His followers to examine them by their fruits.

According to Mr. Evortepe, these biblical principles mean that anyone claiming to have received a revelation from God should be willing to have the claim examined against Scripture.

He also cited John 14:26, where Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit teaching His followers and reminding them of His teachings, as well as Acts 2:17, which speaks about visions and dreams in connection with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

The biblical passages formed part of the Foundation’s approach to examining whether the revelation claimed by Madam Agbeyeye is consistent with Scripture.

The discussion also considered the unusual incidents Madam Agbeyeye associates with attempts by herself or the woman to leave.

The Foundation’s position raises the question of whether an unexpected injury, fainting or another unusual occurrence can, by itself, establish that God has given a specific instruction.

The principle of testing spiritual claims is particularly relevant in such circumstances. An unusual experience may be meaningful to the person who experiences it, but the experience alone does not necessarily establish its divine source.

The burning of large quantities of firewood has also become a significant part of the controversy. Madam Agbeyeye’s claim that the activity is connected to a divine revelation has prompted questions about whether the alleged instruction can be supported by biblical teachings.

Similar questions have been raised concerning the woman’s continued stay with Madam Agbeyeye and the reported separation from her family.

The Foundation has noted that claims of divine instruction affecting an individual’s relationship with family members raise important questions about spiritual authority, personal responsibility and biblical discernment.

Following the interaction, Madam Agbeyeye reportedly agreed that the Duamenefa Foundation could assist in examining the revelation to determine whether it is genuinely from God.

According to the account, she indicated that if the revelation is found not to be from God, she would return to Accra and resume her life.

Mr. Evortepe has appealed to the public to remain calm while the investigation continues. He stressed that the matter should be approached with wisdom, patience and respect for the Bible.

He explained that the Duamenefa Foundation is a Christian-oriented organisation and that, as an Evangelist and student of the Bible, he considers it important for the claims to be examined carefully using Scripture as a principal reference point.

According to him, because the matter involves alleged divine revelation, the investigation must be handled fairly and without rushing to conclusions.

He therefore urged the public to avoid unnecessary accusations and allow the Foundation to complete its examination of the matter.

The controversy has consequently moved beyond the question of whether God can communicate with people. The Bible records different forms of divine communication, but the central issue in the current matter is whether a particular claim of revelation can be established as consistent with God’s Word.

Mr. Evortepe’s position is that a declaration that “God revealed this to me” should not automatically end the discussion but should lead to careful testing, examination and discernment through Scripture.

The Bible records dreams, visions and prophetic messages while also warning believers to exercise discernment. First John 4:1 specifically calls on believers to test spiritual claims rather than accept every claim of a message from God.

Jesus’ warning about false prophets in Matthew 7:15–20 further underscores the importance of examining the fruits associated with a person’s claims and conduct.

Until the circumstances surrounding the incidents at Tadzewu are independently established, the claims made by those involved remain personal accounts and allegations and should not be presented as proven supernatural occurrences.

The Duamenefa Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, is expected to continue examining both the facts surrounding the matter and the biblical basis of the alleged revelation.

The case has also generated a broader conversation about prophecy, spiritual authority and the responsibility of Christians when confronted with claims that “God revealed this” to an individual.

The biblical principle emphasised by Mr. Evortepe is that such a declaration should be tested through Scripture rather than accepted without examination.

As the investigation continues, the public has been urged to remain calm and allow the process to take its course while the Foundation works to determine whether the alleged revelation received by Madam Agbeyeye is consistent with biblical teachings and whether the actions arising from it can be justified within that framework.
