The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, has urged young people to desist from killing themselves, prioritise their well-being and make responsible decisions that protect their lives, relationships, and future.
Mr. Evortepe made the call during the Duamenefa Foundation’s Social Intervention Programme on Fafaa 100.3 FM.
His advice comes amid an ongoing petition before the Foundation involving two young men from Aflao who are reportedly in a dispute over a woman.
According to information contained in the petition, one of the young men allegedly claimed to be the woman’s fiancé before another man became involved with her, resulting in a disagreement between the two.
Mr. Evortepe said the matter subsequently took a spiritual dimension, with one of the individuals allegedly claiming to have experienced what he described as a spiritual attack.
He stressed that investigations into the matter are ongoing and that the Foundation is working to establish the facts surrounding the allegations and determine an appropriate way of addressing the situation.
The Executive President said the case highlights how relationship-related disagreements among young people can escalate when not handled carefully.
He therefore appealed to the youth to exercise restraint when faced with relationship disputes and avoid allowing emotions, jealousy, or anger to influence decisions that could have lasting consequences.
Mr. Evortepe also cautioned young people against engaging in behaviour that could put their well-being or future at risk. He encouraged them to exercise self-control, respect one another, and seek peaceful ways of resolving disagreements.
He particularly advised young men involved in multiple relationships to reconsider such behaviour, noting that relationship conflicts can create unnecessary tension and negatively affect individuals, families, and communities.
According to him, young people who find themselves in difficult situations should seek guidance from trusted family members, responsible adults, traditional leaders, or appropriate institutions rather than attempting to resolve serious disputes through confrontation.
He further encouraged the youth to respect the choices and decisions of others in relationship matters and to understand that disagreements can be addressed through dialogue and peaceful communication.
Mr. Evortepe emphasised that the protection of human life should remain a priority whenever conflicts arise. He urged young people to think carefully before acting, particularly when emotions are high.
He also called on parents, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and relevant institutions to provide guidance and support to young people facing relationship challenges and other disputes.
The Executive President said the Duamenefa Foundation would continue to use its social intervention programmes to promote peaceful conflict resolution, responsible behaviour, and the protection of human life.
He urged young people to learn from conflicts within their communities and make conscious efforts to prevent similar situations from escalating.
Mr. Evortepe reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to promoting peace, protecting lives, and encouraging responsible conduct among young people and the wider community.
He concluded by urging the youth to value themselves, protect their future, and make choices that contribute positively to their families, communities, and society.
