The Duamenefa Foundation has honoured Torgbi Ege IV, Chief of Dzodze Fiagbedu in the Volta Region, following his appointment as Acting President of the Dzodze Traditional Council.
The recognition was announced by the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and CEO of Fafaa 100.3 Fm Dzodze, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, during the Foundation’s Social Intervention Programme aired on Fafaa FM.
According to the Foundation, the appointment comes at a time when the Dzodze Traditional Council has been without a substantive president following a chieftaincy dispute involving the paramountcy stool.
The dispute reportedly led to Torgbiga Dzoku V stepping aside while investigations into the matter continue. As a result, the council has operated without a substantive president pending the outcome of the ongoing proceedings.
Reports received by the Duamenefa Foundation indicate that the Volta Regional House of Chiefs has appointed Torgbi Ege IV to serve as Acting President of the Dzodze Traditional Council until the dispute is resolved.
Speaking during the programme, Torgbi Ege IV expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work in the interest of peace, unity, and progress within the traditional area.
He called on chiefs, opinion leaders, and community members to work together in a spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility to ensure the effective administration of the Traditional Council during the transitional period.
Torgbi Ege IV also emphasized the need to preserve peace and stability, noting that unresolved chieftaincy disputes can hinder development and delay progress within communities.
He urged all parties involved in the dispute to remain calm, exercise restraint, and respect the ongoing traditional and legal processes as investigations continue.
Some opinion leaders in the Dzodze Traditional Area have welcomed the appointment, describing it as an important step toward ensuring continuity in the administration of the Traditional Council while efforts are made to resolve the outstanding chieftaincy issues.
They expressed optimism that the interim leadership would help maintain order, strengthen confidence in the council, and promote stability during the transition.
The development has also renewed discussions on the importance of effective dispute-resolution mechanisms within traditional governance structures. Stakeholders have called for increased reliance on dialogue, mediation, and customary arbitration to resolve chieftaincy disagreements peacefully and prevent prolonged conflicts.
The Duamenefa Foundation reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation within communities, urging all stakeholders in the Dzodze Traditional Area to support efforts aimed at maintaining harmony throughout the transition.
The Foundation further emphasized that chieftaincy disputes require patience and respect for established customary and legal procedures, noting that adherence to due process remains essential for preserving peace and public confidence.
It also encouraged traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and community members to continue engaging in constructive dialogue, stressing that peaceful conflict resolution is fundamental to sustainable development.
The Foundation added that unity among chiefs, elders, youth, and other stakeholders would be critical in ensuring stability within the traditional area while investigations and consultations are ongoing.
