Two Voodoo Practitioners Clash Over GHC10, One Reportedly attack by the gods — Duamenefa Investigates

The Duamenefa Foundation is investigating a petition from Anyako in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, where it was alleged that two voodoo practitioners were involved in a dispute over GHC10.00, resulting in one of them reportedly attack by the gods

According to the petition, Madam Vivian Degbey and Madam Lucky, both believed to be voodoo practitioners operating at the Dzagidipe Shrine, engaged in a disagreement concerning the said amount. The misunderstanding reportedly arose after Madam Vivian Degbey allegedly owed Madam Lucky GHC10.00, which she did not pay on time, leading to tension between the two.

Following the petition, the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, called on Madam Vivian Degbey to share her side of the story. She confirmed that she indeed owed Madam Lucky and had delayed payment, which sparked the dispute between them.

Madam Degbey further explained that she later fell ill, and upon consulting oracles, it was revealed that Madam Lucky was allegedly responsible for her condition. She said that despite several efforts to perform the necessary rituals to reverse the situation, her condition did not improve.

According to her, she sought help from various diviners who performed spiritual sacrifices on her behalf, but none of the interventions yielded positive results. She added that she was later introduced to the Afa deities, where she was initiated into the ifa cult . However, despite complying and initiations into the Ifa cult, she stated that her illness has persisted.

Madam Vivian Degbey also claimed that her illness is allegedly linked to the GHC10.00 dispute. She further stated that a divination performed in the presence of the priest, Hunua Doamekpor, revealed that Madam Lucky was responsible. The priest could not confirm that version in his first account but he later agreed

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Duamenefa Foundation called on Hunua Doamekpor, the priest of the Dzagidipe Shrine, to clarify why the issue was not resolved internally between his two initiates who served under his gods.

Hunua Doamekpor confirmed that both Madam Degbey and Madam Lucky were his shrine initiates . He explained that when the conflict began, he was not around, but upon his return, he called both women to resolve the matter amicably. However, Madam Degbey did not show up immediately. Later, she returned and requested that he invite diviners to perform a spiritual consultation.

According to the priest’s first account, the divination revealed that Madam Degbey was keeping an item belonging to someone who was already deceased, and it did not point to Madam Lucky as being responsible for her illness.

However, in a later interaction, Hunua Doamekpor stated that a subsequent Afa divination revealed that Madam Lucky was indeed responsible for Madam Degbey’s illness. He explained that the diviners advised Madam Degbey to pay back the GHC10.00 to Madam Lucky, after which some rituals were performed in an attempt to heal her. This later statement from the priest, however, contradicted his earlier version of events.

The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, then questioned Hunua Doamekpor on why he had not taken any further steps to heal the victim, initiate of his shrine. The priest responded that Madam Degbey had not shown him respect and had already begun visiting other shrines and diviners for help, which made him lose interest in following up on her condition.

Mr. Evortepe further asked the priest what he intended to do to free his initiate from the alleged spiritual affliction. Hunua Doamekpor replied that they would need to prepare some medicine for her recovery. However, this response did not convince Mr. Evortepe, who continued to probe deeper until the priest began revealing other sensitive issues between them. At that point, the Duamenefa Foundation decided to temporarily halt the investigation and continue at a later date.

Efforts by the Duamenefa Foundation to reach Madam Lucky for her side of the story proved unsuccessful, as her phone line could not be reached.

The Duamenefa Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring peaceful coexistence and spiritual harmony within communities in the Volta Region and beyond.
