Akatsi Market Increase Revenue Generation

Akatsi South, Volta Region

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, has revealed a major boost in revenue collection at the Akatsi Market since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed leadership of the municipal assembly.

Speaking during the official launch of Avenortutudoza 2025, Hon. Dagba stated that during the tenure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), market revenue was consistently low — ranging between GH₵2,000 and GH₵3,000 per market day. Under the current NDC administration and through coordinated efforts, that figure has now jumped to GH₵15,000 per market day.

“Before I came to office, revenue collection in the Akatsi Market was between GH₵2,000 and GH₵3,000. But with determination and in collaboration with the chiefs, this has now increased to GH₵15,000”, he said.

Hon. Dagba also noted that the car park within the market, which was previously used by some market women as a trading space, has now been restored to its original purpose. He said this has brought improved order and better traffic flow within the market.

“We had to stop the trading activities in the car park. It may hurt some people, but it is necessary. Now the car park is safe, and revenue collection in the market is ongoing smoothly”, he added.

According to the MCE, this revenue improvement is the result of deliberate efforts to eliminate leakages, enforce accountability, and restructure market operations. He credited the transformation to a strong partnership between the Assembly and traditional leaders, emphasizing the vital role of chiefs in implementing the changes.

The increased revenue is expected to be channeled into enhancing public services, infrastructure development, and improvements to sanitation and facilities in the market.

The remarks were made during the launch of Avenortutudoza 2025, a festival that celebrates unity, culture, and progress in the Akatsi South Municipality. The event attracted traditional rulers, elders, government officials, youth groups, and residents from across the district.

In conclusion, Hon. Dagba reaffirmed his commitment to bold and responsible leadership, urging stakeholders to support reforms that promote development, even if they come with difficult decisions.
