Notse, Togo – The Notse community in Togo celebrated its 69th Agbogboza festival with a grand durbar, bringing together Ewe people from across the world. The festival commemorates the Ewe people’s historical journey and cultural heritage, serving as a symbol of unity and a reminder of their shared roots.
The event began with an opening prayer, followed by a welcome address delivered by Torgbui Adela Aklasu X, the representative of Torgbui Agorkorli IV, the Paramount Chief of all Ewe people. In his address, he warmly welcomed everyone to the festival and emphasized the importance of unity among all Ewe people, urging them to work together towards the development of their various communities.
During the ceremony, the representative also took the opportunity to recognize and honor three individuals for their outstanding contributions and hard work in supporting the entire Ewe community.
The awardees were:
- Hon. Kwame Selorm Aklasu
- Torgbui Dzidzorli Detu X
- Mr.Kwaku Dzifa Nukportor
The recognition served as a testament to the importance of community service and dedication.

Delegations from different countries, including Ghana, Benin, and Nigeria, were given the opportunity to deliver speeches. Notably, all the delegations stood united on the theme of unity, emphasizing its crucial role in the development and progress of the Ewe people.

The Vice President of the Republic of Togo was also given the opportunity to deliver a speech, during which he expressed his appreciation for Torgbui Agorkorli IV’s vital role in maintaining peace in Togo. He promised to convey the community’s needs to the President of Togo, assuring that efforts would be made to address them. He concluded by stating that the 70th anniversary of the Agbogboza festival would be different, implying that significant progress would be made in the coming year.
The festival drew a large crowd, with prominent figures in attendance, including ministers and respected chiefs from across West Africa. The event featured vibrant cultural performances and traditional music and dance, showcasing the rich diversity of Ewe culture.
Media houses, including Fafaa 100.3fm from Ghana’s Dzodze, monitored the program closely, highlighting the significance of the Agbogboza festival in promoting peace, social cohesion, and cultural preservation.
The Agbogboza festival serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of tradition and cultural heritage in modern times, and the Togolese government has shown its commitment to preserving Ewe cultural legacy.
