The Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki, is deeply saddened and worried about the latest allegations of sexual misconduct by an Ewe Teacher by the name Mr. Vincent TOVOR, aka. Cassava, who allegedly waylay a female third year female student to his personal apartment throughout the night, save for a roll call by the school authorities, which exposed the disappearance of the female student. The female student later confided the truth to her parents.
The MCE. Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki expressed his frustrations on the airwaves of Fafaa 100.3 FM during the Duamenefa Social Intervention Programme, in an interaction with Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Fafaa 100.3 FM, when he was called to speak on the allegations.
He condemned the alleged misconduct, expressing his disappointment with the situation. He stated that he was particularly saddened because he is an old student of Dzodze Penyi SHS, and hearing such bad news about his alma mater was very painful. He noted that this was the second time the school’s name has trended, and once again, it is for negative reasons rather than achievements.
The MCE also addressed the previous allegation against the school’s headmaster, noting that the investigation is still ongoing and the report had not been released before this fresh allegation surfaced.
He assured the public that authorities would ensure the law takes its course in addressing the allegations and added that as MCE, he will personally follow up on the matter until the right thing is done. He further stressed that there should be no interference from any individual when the media reports on this issue, insisting that journalists must be allowed to do their work independently.
Addressing misconceptions about media coverage, he stated that some people view reporting on such incidents as an attempt to damage the school’s corporate reputation. “That is wrong,” he said. “Reporting such news helps identify the wrongdoers among the rest and ensures accountability. If we do not want the media to report what is called news, then we should stop doing what is called news.”
The MCE also spoke directly to Mr. Ketaman, emphasizing the challenges he himself has faced as a journalist. “Look at the challenges you yourself have faced when reporting certain news. I know you have faced attacks, criticisms, and pressures for telling the truth. If you were not a courageous man, you would have stopped this work long ago,” he said.
Responding, Mr. Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe stated that Fafaa 100.3 FM and the Duamenefa Foundation are not reporting on this news with the aim of damaging the school’s name. Instead, he explained, the station and foundation are committed to protecting the school from bad behavior, identifying wrongdoers, and ensuring students are safe. He further emphasized that Fafaa 100.3 FM and the Duamenefa Foundation have come to protect vulnerable members of the community, stop bad attitudes, and ensure the right thing is done.
Mr. Ketaman added that the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Police, and other relevant institutions should carry out their investigations and release their findings in the public interest. He assured listeners that Duamenefa Foundation and Fafaa 100.3 FM will strongly follow up on the story to ensure accountability and the safety of students.
He also urged the public and the school community to remain calm and avoid rushing to judgment against any individual until investigations are completed. According to him, responsible reporting ensures that facts are verified, the rights of all parties are respected, and the focus remains on preventing future misconduct.
Mr. Ketaman further highlighted the importance of media in shaping public awareness and safeguarding institutions. He stressed that uncovering wrongdoing is not meant to tarnish reputations arbitrarily, but to create a culture of accountability where the vulnerable, particularly students, are protected from harm.
In conclusion, he called on all stakeholders, parents, teachers, students, and the broader community, to support ethical reporting and allow the proper authorities to carry out their duties without interference. He emphasized that continued vigilance and collaboration between the media, law enforcement, and education authorities are essential to ensuring justice, restoring trust, and maintaining a safe learning environment.
Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki further explained that handling sensitive issues, whether in public service or journalism, requires resilience, professionalism, and integrity, highlighting the realities of truth-telling and the courage needed to pursue accountability.
